Malta Illustration Annual 2023 — Artworks Selected by the Judging Panel

The artworks that will be published in this year’s Illustration Annual have now been selected by our panel of distinguished judges! The panel of judges have chosen 66 beautiful illustrations by 43 super talented illustrators.

We would like to thank Zoë Barker, Daniela Attard and Thom Cuschieri for taking the time to look at all the lovely work that the illustrators have sent in, and for choosing their top three illustrations. We usually keep these top three illustrations private, and then refer to them when selecting the cover, illustrations for exhibitions etc.. This year we thought we should start making these public because well, we’re not sure why they weren’t made public in the first place!

As always, we have tried to be as fair as we possibly could. Each illustration needed to be selected by two judges out of three, to make it in the Annual. If your work was not selected, it doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t good enough — sometimes a judge selects one of your works, another judge selects another, and this is unfortunately not enough for the work to be published. Our aim remains to showcase only the best work in an effort to properly document Maltese illustration.
